“Do those who have less than you, those who suffer more than you, the honor of receiving the blessings you are offered in this life.” Our Friends
“Those who suffer in life know the gift of seeming chance and take the gifts it offers.” Our Friends
When once I was desperately ill, unable to do more than move from bed to couch, Our Friends gave me a practice. They asked me to make the focus of my day looking for, and deeply taking in, 5 beautiful things each day.
They did not speak of gratitude, yet gratitude rose like an upwelling spring from the joy I found in my 5 daily discoveries. Once I began, I was overwhelmed by the constant stream of beautiful things taking place all around me: the cedars waving in the wind, the rain on roof, the birds at the feeders, my sweetheart’s arrival home from work, a friend’s kind call, laughter brought on by a scene in a movie.
Looking for 5 beautiful things each day made me aware of so much beauty, in so many forms, ever present in my life; it welled up joy in me, and out of this rose a natural, pure, gratitude for life. Stephanie
