Acceptance of  Self & Others

Our Friends

As you relate to others on their path, from your place on your path, whatever may be happening, simply recognize that you may see things differently.  Be in acceptance of the other…and yourself.

Accepting yourself with gentleness, with loving kindness, with compassion comes first.

Until you accept yourself, it is impossible to really accept anyone else.

When self-acceptance exists, there can be a great container of Being that creates “space” for allowance and acceptance of others.

When acceptance of self is small, very often kindness, lovingness and giving to others are actually offered in order to get: to be accepted, to be thought well of, to be approved of, to be loved.  What is given comes out of a sense of fear, lack and pain, rather than growing from a place of spacious Being — like fresh air across a spring field, a place of acceptance, a place where life is good even when it’s not perfect.

In this breathing space within oneself, there is room for the Being of another to be free, to own herself.  There grows appreciation for the uniqueness of another for all he brings that is a revelation.  There grows excitement in the new and acceptance of the difficult, because the Self lives in a space of Being that is free, inclusive of goodness and flaw without judgment or threat.  It is a quiet place of love out of which grows a smooth energy, like silk, that can be felt by others.  It is rare; it is necessary; it is profound and powerful.  And you each deserve it…from within.

Musings on trust in Creation

We have just returned from almost 2 weeks on Maui.  This was a mostly gifted trip, the result of problems coming up with a house we are moving into.

My homes have always waited for me.  I trust that.  I write down what I am looking for.  I imagine it; I see myself living in the space and loving it.  I feel it.  Yet I know what I find will not be exactly what I imagine.  My imagination informs Creation what I want.  Creation also knows what I need…not only in terms of the home but in terms of the process.

My sweetheart and I are moving in together.  While this is good, it has engendered some anxiety, conern, and stress.  Our process of finding our home, and the process the house itself had to go through to be ready for us, has perfectly reflected our needs and our vision for our relationship.

The whole thing started when my landlady told me she might want to rent my apartment to a friend.  “OK,” I said.  So my sweetie and I started talking.  We decided it felt good, the idea of living together, even though we had anticipated another year before we would do this.  We decided to sit with it, feel it, see how it evolved.  We had some time.

Three nights later we were at dinner with new friends.  Admiring their house, we were told, “It’s a rental.  We think we found a place to buy.”  We jumped at it.  And we were 98% sure we had it after we met the landlord.  A week later, a call told us his best friend’s marriage was ending and he wanted the house.  Gone.

Wow!  Regroup.  Keep looking.  Two weeks, three weeks, we found a place my sweetie thought perfect.  It didn’t feel right to me.  The layout and location were great, but the house itself felt bad to me…like bad ju-ju in there.  I just could not accept it.  Everything in me said “No!” even as my brain told me all that was good about it.  We passed on it.  Blessings on my sweetheart that he accepted my “no” with grace, that he trusted my gut feelings without needing to feel the same himself.

A few days later, we learned that the ad we had responded to, leading us to the house with bad ju-ju, was actually for another house…just four doors from the first.  We ran to see.  It was perfect.  It felt good, was even better in several key areas.  It had a funky smell, which the landlord assured us would be gone once the carpets were shampooed.  We signed.

Carpets cleaned.  Smell worse…much worse.  We aired the house for two weeks.  We had time before move in.  No help.  Landlord, gone home to California by then, agreed without hesitation to have the carpets redone.  Carpet guy brings black light.  OMG!!!  Cat pee everywhere…down the walls, all over the carpets, down the vents.  He tries his best.  Four days after, bad small as bad as ever.  Carpet guy comes back and declares carpets are toast.  Landlord, my Heaven bless him, doesn’t hesitate.  He agrees to replace all of them and have the vents overhauled.

But we couldn’t move in.  Well into our paid tenancy, with notice given at our old places, we had no where to go.  Our landlord says “I have a condo on Maui that’s empty, get yourselves there and it’s yours; we’ll trade straight across for rent days I owe you.”

Now, I turned 50 on September 7th.  When I turned 40, I did a piano concert for my friends and family.  I wanted to do something equally specially — but with less work  —  in a beautiful place.  The past few months have been so full, I had not been able to create a plan and a place.  So I had let go of that idea.

Creation, the Universe, G-d, G-ddess, Life…had not let go of my clear vision…

I spent my 50th birthday on Maui with my beloved and one of my best friends (who flew over from the Big Island.)  I swam in Maui’s sacred pools; I swam in the ocean: I snorkled with magnificent fish and coral; I watched local families play, truly play, in the water; I saw traditional hula performed; I watched and envied surfers (next time!)  We rested, read books on the beach, slept to the crash of the waves and the songs of the winds.  It was truly paradise.

I came home, with my beloved, to a beautiful house…and to a wonderful new person awaiting a session with Our Friends.  A blessing to be sharing them again, as they nourish and beautify my life and soul.

So here’s my musing.  I believe in Creation, and while I have never had a lot of money, I have always been provided for and blessed.  I believe in trusting that whatever is happening, there is some kind of blessing in it.  I went through this house and home search with that belief.   (I’ve actually left a lot out…it was a very interesting process!)  In the end, this great good gift dropped in my lap.

I have learned trust does not mean I should be passive or not choose clearly for myself.  I have to vision what I want and then work toward it in action.  I also have to surrender to the process and know that Creation knows better than I what I really need for the growth I have most deeply requested, for the evolution of my soul.   It is still up to me to say “no” and say “yes” and to act.  But by going on faith in the midst of all that, I am often blessed in unexpected and wonderful ways.

We came home to a house that has been made as new as possible for us, a place the old shmutz has been cleansed, just as we are working in our relationship to clean up our old shmutz and make this relationship new, bring our best and growing selves to it to create the relationship we have each dreamed, visioned and felt.  We keep holding the feeling and the vision, and we keep working through what comes up to be cleansed.  In the process, we are creating a  home for ourselves with each other that is like-new, and feels — as this house now does — like a blessing and a gift.  We feel at home here…and we feel more at home with each other living together.

Such a gift!  Such a blessing!    Aloha & Mahalo,  Stephanie

What is Channeling?

Channeling is a much used, and perhaps misused, word these days.

I have felt a good deal of discomfort with the term even though I am a channel.  Much of my discomfort arises from the lack of clarity as to what channeling is and isn’t.

Channeling, as I understand it from Our Friends and from my own experience, is an inherent gift that can be developed — just as an artist’s talent must be both inherent and developed, as a mathmetician’s ability must be inherent and developed, as an engineer, as a Doctor, as any gift must be invested in, cared for, nurtured.

Just as not everyone is an artist or a mathmetician, not everyone is a channel.  We all have some degree of almost any skill if we set ourselves to build it.  But is it our natural, inherent gift?

Channeling is the gift of being able to surrender to an energy that is not embodied, an energy for positive good, so the energy may speak and work through the channel to help others.  I believe that any energy coming through the channel comes always to work with and help the channel as well, perhaps first and foremost.

Channeling is often confused with mediumship, which is the ability to hear and interpret those who have died.   There are people who have a type of mediumship ability that relates to “hearing” and being able to interpret animals as well.

Channeling is frequently confused with the experience of being deeply present with oneself, another, or a situation to such an extent that you are able to hear and act upon your intuition and instincts easily.  This is an ability we all possess as children but have often had “taught” out of us.  Relearning it feels almost a miracle, like touching some miraculous wisdom, yet it is our birthright.

There is a confused belief that a channeled energy should know “everything.”  There are many reasons why this is not so.  Two reasons that I am very familiar with from sharing Our Friends in sessions are 1) that much in life is not set in stone, all is not planned, and so prophesy is not possible; 2)  to prophesy is to take away another’s power for action and choice, which denies that person’s soveriegnty as a human being.

As Our Friends often say, our lives are a journey much like a river’s.  We are meant to meander.  To tell someone where they are going is to point them in a straight line.  Head out on that line and life will have to change the goal, because we are meant to take the journey of our lives, not head straight for the finish.  Besides, there is no finish…just a scene change, so to speak.

…that’s all for now…

Love, Stephanie

Being My True Self

"Building A Cairn" Me at almost 50 in meditation with rock and sun and trees and water...in a moment of love with Life.

This week an article came out about me in a local paper.  Those of you who know me, know that I have assiduously avoided advertising in any way my channeling work, that for 20 years I have cringed at the idea of it.

But I am about to turn 50.  As I looked at my life’s continuum, I asked myself what I want to do with the rest of this life, what do I want bring to this life and this sacred earth.  My answer was obvious: what I have always felt in my heart and soul and Being, what fills me with nourishing joy, my communion.

I am fortunate that my communion has evolved over the years to take several forms:  I offer Our Friends through sessions, a sharing that brings me new friends with almost every new person and blesses me with the felt knowledge that Our Friends offer the deepest nourishment to the people who come.

I create art, which also reflects my communion with and love for this earth and this life.  I write poetry.  I write memoir and creative vignettes.  I write pondering, musing, ideas, and considerations.  I write what the muse tells me to write, and I am blessed that the muse is clear and strong with me.

Turning 50, I realized that what I want to do, and what my soul needs me to do, is to share fully and ardently my gifts.  This is my source of nourishment and joy; it opens me to love in the most profound and deepest ways.

So when I was asked to allow this article to be written, I was almost willing to consider it.  It took several tries and some negotiation, but in the end I agreed.  I agreed in part because the man writing the article is my beloved, and I trust him to get me right.

I agreed because he understood my need to be transperant about who I am and how I come to this work, why it is important to me, and why it is essential to me to offer it with the deepest human honesty…without packaging or branding or the “right” bullet points or currently popular descriptors.

Of all I have learned over the past 20 years, I have learned that one thing is absolute with a gift such as Our Friends.  My first and only real task is to live my life, and make my choices — to the best of my ability — to keep the path, the felt-sense of my communion, clear and pure in my life and Being.

Since this article (which I will post here next week for your reading pleasure…) has come out, I have been blessed to meet some wonderful people, new friends: grounded, clear, loving people of sweet heart, whose intentions for growth are deep.

I am feeling very grateful for turning 50, for the clarity it has brought me, for “coming out” more fully in my work and in my life, for my beloved who presented me so honestly and clearly (and with humor!) in his writing, for those who have felt drawn to come for sessions.

Life has been busy the past week.  Next week I will get back to writing and posting Our Friends material.  Until then…

May you be blessed with peace and clarity, with entering the mystery of the present moment…whatever it holds, knowing that whether beauty or pain, it is of the moment and possesses a gift to bestow.  May you feel safe to open to your own feelings, Being, presence, and moment.  Love, Stephanie

Who Are Our Friends to Me?

From Stephanie’s Journal 2001 (A journaled note to a friend)

Description of Our Friends as they are to me

I will try to write to you of Our Friends.  I want you to know them as I know them.  I wish you could experience them as I do.  I cannot do justice to them, or my relationship with them, in words.  But I hope I can make you understand what they are to me.

Our Friends are my friend, teacher, guide, mentor, muse, support, source of nourishment and unconditional love.  Not a group, not an individual, not a personality.  I refer to them in plural, because they are definitely not an “I” as you and I experience “I.”

When I imagine Our Friends, I see something like a cluster of soap bubbles, or –even more exact — a dance of lights…beautiful colors weaving in and through one another, like the air above a fire, yet moving as a whole, one unit with uniqueness within, just like a flame.

When they speak to me, it is one voice I hear.  Always the same voice.  A beloved’s voice.  It is not my voice.  I hear in my head neither the voice of my own thoughts, nor the voice other’s hear when Our Friends are channeling through me.  Hearing is supposed to be about vibrations hitting the eardrum and being translated by the brain.  Yet we hear in our heads as we hear with our ears, so there is more to hearing than sound vibrations.

What I recognize when I hear Our Friends in my thoughts is their energy, the feel of them, their love, their presence, just as a tiny child senses the return of its parent to the house, though the child sleeps soundly in its room.  We feel those we love on levels far beyond our physical senses.  Those we trust, we sense most truly.  I trust Our Friends.  I know absolutely that I am loved.  I know this because I have experienced nothing else from them, nor have I felt anything but love from them toward those who come to talk with them.

While I have judgments, opinions, points of view, — and I have channeled for people I do not like, people I do not trust — when Our Friends come in, the perception is very different.  They see human beauty where I see human faults.  The same realities of character that I may judge as wrong, they see in context of the whole person in their essence and purpose among the Whole of us.

I put “Whole” in capitals deliberately.  The Whole of us is the Whole of humanity, the Whole of Creation, Whole of G-d.

The primary thing I’ve learned from Our Friends is that we are each and all inextricably in and with G-d.  There is no separating us out.  We are those dancing webs of light, interweaving as we move endlessly…and fundamentally joyfully (the second biggest thing I’ve learned from Our Friends)…through Creation.  We are the Creation and contain the Creator’s spark within us.  The Created within the Creator constantly creating Her self, His self, Its’ self … there is no adequate word.

There’s the rub.  We are the very stuff and substance of G-d.  The life force that is us, the breath that enlivens us, is G-d itself.

What an irony to be the very creation of the Creator…to be the sunbeam of the Sun, yet not to be able to encompass, to fathom, to comprehend that Sun within our little beam.

Thus is the path of devotion needed, created, explained, understood.  I don’t know why, but we seem to come closer to being the essence G-d created us to be when we offer devotion to the Greater Light that created us.  When we acknowledge our smallness we become bigger.  It is a conundrum, yet it is true.

Gulf Coast and Response to Catastrophic Predictions (Fear)

Note from Stephanie:  I’ve gotten inquiries about what Our Friends might have to say regarding the situation unfolding in the Gulf.  Most of this information came through during a private session.  The woman kindly gave permission to use it as a post.  I tried to shorten the material, but in trying to revise and edite, the linkages seemed to be getting lost.  Even working with Our Friends on it, ultimately it seemed best to give you all the information together.  Our Friends added some additional information, as they often do.  We chose to separate out the material specific to the Gulf and include the additional, very important, material concerning preditions of catastrophe and fear.

 On the Gulf Coast

The earth has her own resources; she has her own protections, and she has her own angels.  She also loves her creatures, all of them.  She is not out to hurt anyone.

We see more sunshine and Light in the future for this planet.  What that means for human beings is a bit unclear, but for Gaia herself there is beautiful Light in the future, and since humans are part of Gaia and inseparable from her, we cannot but see this includes human life in some form of being.  So we would say there is no benefit to fear.

We would not minimize the irresponsibility of humans in drilling into the earth’s crust in this way; it’s a bad idea…for many reasons.  Not to minimize that, we also share that your oceans are very deep, and you have no idea what’s down there; you have no idea of the resources the earth has.

This spill for the earth, what would we compare it to?  Just as you might get a spot on your body and toxins in your system, you might feel queasy and not good, but your body has the resources to heal it.  The earth has the resources to heal and to cleanse this.  It will require changes; it will require movement; it will require some stuff to happen.  But she can do it; the resources are there.

The impact on humans will be meaningful; these are the consequences of irresponsibility and greed.  While these consequences will feel very dramatic to humans, it’s not as dramatic to the rest of the earth.  Yes, there are animals dying, birds dying, fish dying; it is very dramatic to the marine life in that area.  Yet, the sea creatures have healing resources in terms of their energies and their integration with the ocean.

There are processes within the earth and her energetic structure that humans have no idea of.  Gaia Herself can absorb this.  There are energies moving deep within your oceans that will have a profound impact and cleansing.  It will create some other effects as well.  But we would say that in terms of the Earth, it is heal-able for her.   Our Friends

 On Catastrophic Predictions

Fear wants a reason to exist; it creates a story to justify its own existence.

To assume a fearful outcome is to assume an unkind and unloving intent on the part of the earth and Creation.

Fear wants a reason to exist; it creates a story to justify its own existence.  The more fear presented, the bigger the story needs to be in order to justify and feed that fear.  Images of doom and destruction arise out of fear: individual and collective fear that imagination is feeding upon, creating a story that seems very real.

We do not predict catastrophe, worm holes, global electromagnetic madness for many reasons.  Doing so would do no positive good in the world, and that is the whole point of Being.

Also, to predict anything right now is not in alignment with the energies as they are occurring in the moment, because the energies are moving very rapidly.  It’s like salmon swimming upstream; try to predict and follow the course of one salmon, and you are going to lose sight of it in no time, because there are thousands of them.  You simply can’t do it.  The energies are so many and moving so fast, in so many directions; so much is happening.

To predict is to try to control; it is the antithesis of how Creation works.  To assume a fearful outcome is to assume an unkind and unloving intent on the part of the earth and Creation.  This has more to do with a human feeling of helplessness.

Fear separates you from the very solution you seek.   It leads you to struggle for a level of control that you do not have, and it does so by looking outside your own essence and presence, which is the only “place” where you truly exist at all.  It is only here that you hold your awareness with Creation, with the loving, infinitely creative essence that lies at the core of all creation.  Such is the Being of the Creator; such is the Being of you.

In surrender and honoring, listening and heeding, in movement out of that, you have control, never through blaming, fear, or anger.  Creation, even your known Universe, does not operate like this; fear, anger, blame, these are nullifying energies, never creating energies.

Those who are waiting for, and believe they desire, a big event, a dramatic shift toward something “else,” something new that they imagine to be more wonderful than what you have now, are missing the fact that you live in a true Eden now. Those who imagine that all the others will disappear, leaving the “good people” to a better world, are very confused about the Creation, about the art form of Creation that is this world, about who you are as humanity.

Imagining and waiting for a great “shift” is not really any different than Christians who have been waiting 2000 years for the apocalypse.  And they are sure that it’s coming…all the time.  So far, it hasn’t happened. This concept of reward and punishment is a strong thread, tangled deep in human consciousness across most of the earth.  It emerges over and over again in different guises, new story lines.

But also, every story is, in a sense, true.  Those who are very devout Christians and believe they will meet their Savior when they die, will.  That is a true story to them.  Be very careful what story you attach to, because it is going to be true for you.

Do you not want the story that says “I don’t know, but I believe in the beauty behind Creation, because that’s what I see at the heart of it all.”  Wish to experience, and hold to, the place of “Show me!” rather than the place of “I know.”  The “I know” comes from fear.

What you believe you know, you will find, because Creation will not scare you as you scare yourself.  Creation is infinitely patient in its unfolding love.  If you adhere to your story, we guarantee it will be a limit, a garden wall that prevents you from seeing everything that’s in Creation.  It may be comforting, but it is confining, that garden wall of certainty.

You are confused in believing yourselves to be individuals, separate from one another as well as Creation, in independent bodies.  There is nothing independent in all Creation; all is within the One; all is interflowing.

There is nothing independent about your bodies; this is why you fear death.  You are creatures of this earth; these bodies were created to live here, in Eden, in an absolute beauty and perfection.  This creation was designed to be as utterly interconnected and — to use a human concept that is misunderstood as negative —interdependent as the whole of Creation.  It is a beautiful and loving truth of Creation.   It is wonderful.

As long as you are trying to escape death or escape the body, you are operating from fear.  You are running away from something, rather than moving toward something.  When you are operating from fear, you cannot be connected to Creation.

So many people feel their bodies are a trap they need to escape.  This is very sad.  In truth, you are already the real Essence of you, and this can never change.    Your body is an added bonus, a temporary gift to enjoy, as is this Earth.  Move toward this gift.

If you are worried about disaster, then it is up to you to decide how prepared you are willing to become for any sort of natural disaster.  Understand that the physical universe has its own laws; its life unfolds without malicious intent.  Everything on the web of physical being is affected, including you.  You are always loved and cared for.  Remember that who you are is so far beyond this body.  Creation cares about you.  Your body is a temporary experience; it is the cardboard container of a priceless gift.

The evolution of Creation is rather like a painting or a piece of art.  You don’t just go “splat” and it’s done.  It’s a process; it evolves; it emerges.  There is always that impulse to move further and push farther, to grow.  Growth, from the deepest essence within each Being, each spark of Creation, is the desire and action of love at the heart of all things; it is Creation creating itself always.

Those who hopefully await a sudden shift are scared, trapped in a new version of an old story.  It is a child’s wish to have all that is difficult removed so the child can be at peace.  You are not children.  You are sovereign beings.

Regardless how many stories you create of salvation from afar, peace is never going to happen by the action of some power greater than yourselves, because this would deny who your sovereignty in Creation.  As sunbeams of the sun, you are creators of the Creation along with all of Creation.  You must be the incarnation; it cannot be done to or for you.  And you all will do it.  You are not G-d, but you are that spark of the Divine come to emerge into this world fully.  That is your task in any given life; to wait for the miracle is to disavow the reason you’re here.

Not knowing how to be more than embodied, not knowing how to incarnate, the feeling of vulnerability is enormous.  Incarnation requires choice moment to moment; it requires work.  It asks each human to do his or her own work, the nitty gritty work of inner cleansing through focus and choice.  It asks you to look at your thoughts, your emotions, things in your body that need to be cleared.   Peace resides within you and between you at any moment; it is for you to achieve.  This is being and becoming your Essence, that sunbeam of the sun.

It is very easy to get off into a side track of some kind of fear.  It is an issue and a question for every human being.

There is a balance, a place of awareness; we are asking you to hold your focus on a recognition of the beauty and the love that is at the core of life.  When you look at a sunset or a tree, or love another human being…everything that is truly core is coming from love and beauty.

Recognize that this must be what Creation and the creative impulse is at the heart of everything.  Everything else is some kind of picture and process within that creation.  Trust the beauty and love impulse that is core.  Hold the thread of your awareness and choosing on that, rather than getting attached to any of the images that out-picture, or seem to out-picture, in the world.  In so doing, you become the peace you seek.  As you are, so you give.  Be peace to bring peace.       Our Friends
